Linda Thur, left, and Gail McPhee, original members with the local Cuddles ‘N Hugs quilting club, associated with Victoria’s Quilts Canada to donate finished products to cancer patients, work joyously on their colourful four-patch quilt, already spoken for by a cancer patient in the Almonte-Carp region. The quilters gather regularly in the Eganville – Golden Lake area to make quilts for cancer patients. In their 10 –year history, the group has provided comfort to 350 cancer patients.

Pembroke edged the Beavers by a 4-3 count. Finnigan’s of Renfrew leads the six-team league with 19 points followed by Golden Lake T-Birds with 17. Pembroke Auto Sales is in third with 15 followed by the Killaloe Kings with 11. Eganville’s two entries, the M.W. Miller Loggers and the Beavers hold down fifth and sixth spot with 10 and 6 points, respectively.
 
Soldiers from CFB Petawawa have been at Fort Irwin National Training Centre  for several weeks preparing for their deployment to Afghanistan later this year. The environment, terrain and Afghan villages simulate conditions found in Afghanistan.
