The rink from Mask Communications emerged as the top team in this year’s Killaloe Community Bonspiel at the Killaloe Curling Club. Thirty-two teams took part with the Mask rink winning by one-half point. Alan Smith, 79, and Marinea Smith, 74, both of Deep River, were killed in a collision on Hwy. 17, west of the Round Lake Road intersection at Pembroke Tuesday afternoon. Their small westbound Dodge Spirit car collided with an eastbound Chev pickup truck driven by 51-year-old Kim Labbe, also of Deep River.  The collision occurred in the east bound lane of Hwy 17. Mr. Labbe and his passenger 51 year old Cindy Labbe were both taken to Pembroke Regional Hospital with minor injuries.  A third vehicle, driven by 49 year old John Robertson of Stittsville was indirectly involved.  Robertson was not injured.

These business owners from Killaloe, Hagarty and Richards Township attended last Tuesday night’s waste management meeting where they learned about the proposed changes that will eliminate bulk dumping of garbage and increase the cost for their operations. An Ottawa native who has spent the last few years of her residency in British Columbia training as a general surgeon is the newest addition to the Renfrew Victoria Hospital team.  During a teleconference on Monday afternoon, hospital CEO Randy Penney introduced Dr. Susan Krajewski, the newest recruit signed for RVH by the Renfrew and Area Health Services Village recruitment committee. She will be joining the staff in May and will be replacing long-time surgeon, Dr. Lance Miller, who is retiring.
